Houseboating
There is one activity unique only to Voyageurs National Park: housboating.
A houseboat is just that, a boat that has been designed or modified to be used primarily as a home. House boats range from from more modest 30 to 40 foot boats to 70-foot-plus luxury houseboat models. Houseboats can have all the same amenities as a home, such as plumbing and appliances, but are not at a fixed location. Rather, they can be driven on bodies of water. Houseboating is one of many ways to get out and explore the outdoors of Voyageurs National Park but still have household amenities. With nearly 84 thousand acres of water and 655 miles of shoreline, as well as over 900 islands, Voyageurs National park offers plenty of opportunities for houseboaters to enjoy its scenic beauty. Voyageurs National Park also features many houseboat sites where visitors may anchor their boats for the night. Houseboats also allow access to the parks various backcountry trails and backcountry tent campsites. There are several requirements for houseboating at Voyageurs National Park:
